The German midfielder also shared his plans regarding the National Team, which could see him calling it quits after the 2020 UEFA Euro.

Germany's disappointing performance in the FIFA World Cup keeps making waves, and Mesut Özil's decision to hang his international boots was panned by his Die Mannschaft team-mate Toni Kroos in a recent interview with German tabloid Bild.

The Real Madrid midfielder blasted Özil for a very particular reason: he disagreed with Arsenal's playmaker on the subject about racism in the German Football Federation (DFB), and categorized his claims as "bullsh*t".

"The way he chose to do it wasn't right. That bit in his press release where he talks about things he shouldn't mention was overshadowed by a load of bullsh*t,"Kroos stated.

"I think Özil knows better than anyone that there's no racisim inside the DFB or in the team. On the contrary, the team has always based its success on diversity and integration, and for many years, he was a good example of that concept," Kroos added.

Die Mannschaft's midfielder added that Özil should have taken all the criticism as all the other players did, rather than coming up with excuses to justify his decision.

"We were all panned by our underwhelming performance in the World Cup, and even then, there were some undeserved comments by critics, but as a player, you have to learn how to deal with those comments too," the player said.

Before the interview came to an end, Kroos hinted that his international retirement could have taken place during this summer, but coach Joachim Löw convinced him to postpone his decision until the 2020 Euro, once he has a chance to make ammends for their poor performance in the 2018 World Cup.

"Sometimes I feel the need to take a break, but Joachim fought hard to have me around this summer. We talked about it, and our goal will be that of making a better tournament in 2020 than the one we had this summer. Furthermore, we agreed to make things work so I can get enough rest from time to time," Kroos concluded.
