Real Madrid travel to second-placed Real Betis in search of their first La Liga win of the season.

Match preview

La Liga's defending champions Real Madrid will travel to Seville to take on Real Betis as they look to register their first win of the season. Last weekend, Los Blancos began the new campaign on a rather frustrating note as they ended their season opener with Real Sociedad in a goalless draw. As it was the case last season, the game's outcome highlighted the shortcomings of Zinedine Zidane's men in attack.

With the likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Luka Jovic, among others all available, it was Sergio Ramos who finished behind Karim Benzema as the team's second-highest scorer in the 2019/2020 season. Nevertheless, the financial implications associated with the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic has made it a tad impossible for the Merengues to get another proven goalscorer on their books this summer.

Relatively, one may also attribute last weekend's draw to the fact that Real Madrid has not been involved in a competitive game since their Champions League Round of 16 defeat to Manchester City. In the preseason, the Whites featured in just one preparatory game, running away with an emphatic 6-0 win over Getafe. Needless to say, they have registered just one loss in their last 14 games. Just two of the matches have ended in draws with the remaining 12 being wins.

For Real Betis, the objective is to keep their 100 percent start intact when the champions come to town. Los Verdiblancos began their season with a 1-0 away win over Deportivo Alaves before sealing a 2:0 victory over Real Valladolid at home. While a win on Saturday will take their record to three wins in three outings, the underdogs know that a top performance will be required of them to make that happen.

Over the course of their last 10 games, Manuel Pellegrini's side has managed six wins, four of which have come in their last four outings. Prior to that they were on a run of three consecutive defeats. Against Real Madrid, they will draw inspiration from the fact that they are unbeaten in all previous three league games with Madrid.

Team news: Who is injured or suspended for Real Betis vs Real Madrid?

Real Betis will approach the upcoming encounter with Real Madrid without Victor Camarasa, Dani Martin, and Francis Guerrero. The availability of both Nabil Fekir and Andres Guardado also remains uncertain. The former was substituted off against Valladolid after picking up an injury while the latter also appeared to have suffered a foot injury.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, will not have Eden Hazard, Mariano Diaz, and Marco Asensio among the squad due to injury. The Merengues will also be without Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon with the pair completing moves to Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, no player is suspended for none of the two sides.

Predicted starting XI

Real Betis: Bravo; Emerson, Mandi, Bartra, Moreno; Rodriguez, Carvalho; Joaquin, Canales, Fekir; Iglesias

Real Madrid: Courtois; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Mendy; Kroos, Odegaard, Modric; Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius.
