Preview: Wolfsburg vs Dortmund

Hosts Wolfsburg come into this match having secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Augsburg in their first game after the two month pause due to COVID-19. They are unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga games, and sit in sixth spot. While there is no way they will likely catch fifth placed Leverkusen, die Wölfe can certainly ensure they secure a Europa League football spot in a rather congested field by finishing the season on a high note.

However, Wolfsburg have a hoodoo when it comes to facing Dortmund. Die Wölfe have only avoided defeat in just one of their last nine meetings with die Schwarzgelben across all comps. More worryingly, the hosts have lost their last four clashes with Dortmund on home turf, and will be hoping to avoid losing a fifth straight time to the same opponent. They, to date, have never lost five in a row against one team in club history, and certainly, Oliver Glasner will not want to be the man responsible for establishing that dubious record on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Dortmund kicked off their Bundesliga restart with a bang as they pummeled rivals Schalke 4-0 last weekend. Die Schwarzgelben will have one eye on the upcoming Klassiker clash versus Bayern looming on the horizon, as that game will definitely prove to be a key deciding factor in who clinches the Bundsliga title at the end of the term. But will their focus on der Klassiker prove to be a distraction? Wolfsburg will be extra motivated in this clash to avoid defeat at all costs, and Dortmund will want to take care that this match does not become a potential banana peel for them as they, too, will need to avoid dropping points if they want to keep Bayern within their sights.

Team news: Wolfsburg vs Dortmund

Wolfsburg: William is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL. Ignacio Camacho has injured his ankle and is also still on the treatment table. Yannick Gerhardt is very likely to miss out due to a facial fracture - if he does play, he naturally will have to wear a mask. Josuha Guilavogui is still continuing his rehab following a knee injury in February so will not make an appearance on Saturday.

Dortmund: Skipper Marco Reus could miss the rest of the season if he doesn't recover from another injury problem - this time, it's his thigh. Nico Schulz is also a definite absentee as a result of muscular problems. Meanwhile, Dan-Axel Zagadou is also out due to a knee injury, while  Axel Witsel, young American starlet Giovanni Reyna, and Emre Can are in doubt with groin, calf, and general muscular injuries respectively.
