Both attackers have been stealing the headlines with their performances. They will now go head-to-head in the Champions League on Matchday 1.

Dortmund and Barcelona are gearing up for a highly-anticipated showdown in the Champions League. The German and Spanish giants kick off their European campaign in a clash that could see Reus exhibit his elegance, Paco Alcacer show the Blaugrana what they are missing out on, or Messi make a triumphant return from injury.

However, one interesting aspect of this game will be the clash between Jadon Sancho and Ansu Fati, two teenagers grabbing the headlines for their respective clubs. While the two won’t necessarily be involved in many individual duels, as neither is a defender, but the two will battle it out for the spotlight in an eagerly-awaited fixture.

Unlike Fati, Sancho isn’t a new kid making a name for himself. The Englishman might only be 19 but he exploded onto the scene last season and has been going from strength to strength. In 2018/19, he scored 12 goals and set up another 14 in the Bundesliga as his club narrowly missed out on the league title.

This season, he has contributed to six goals in four games in the German top-flight, scoring two and assisting four. In the German Super Cup, the curtain-raiser to the Bundesliga, Sancho had a role in both goals as Dortmund beat Bayern 2-0 to lift the title, scoring one and assisting the other.

Jadon Sancho, Ansu Fati, Dortmund, Barcelona, UEFA Champions League

The Englishman has scored and assisted in three of the eight games he has played this season in all competitions and has failed to either score or assist only once this term. A stellar display against the Catalan giants will garner him more attention and could add to the rumors linking him with a mega-money return to the Premier League.

Fati’s case is a bit different. The Bissau-Guinean starlet is still learning the ropes in the Barcelona first team but this hasn’t stopped him from shattering records. In Messi’s absence, it has been the 16-year-old grabbing the headlines for the Liga champions.

First, he became the youngest Barcelona scorer after netting in the 2-2 draw with Osasuna. Then, he became the youngest scorer at Camp Nou and the youngest player to score and assist in the same game in the 5-2 win over Valencia.

On Tuesday, he could write his name in history if he finds the back of the net as he would become the youngest scorer in Champions League history at the age of 16 years and 322 days. Given that Leo will likely be eased back into the squad, the teenager should feature and will fancy his odds.

While it’s hard to predict who will upstage who, one thing is a given: we are in for an exciting game. With promising young talents like these set to go head-to-head, a thriller is a must.
