After an impressive display during the Women's World Cup Qualifiers, Spain will try to make a lasting impression in this competition.

What is Spain's history in the FIFA Women's World Cup?

This will just be the second FIFA Women's World Cup appearance for the Spanish National Team. Their previous performance in this competition took place in 2015, but the experience was not as successful as planned. Indeed, the team was eliminated after just three games.

The Spanish side ended the competition in 20th place after drawing one game and losing two more. Only Nigeria, Mexico, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador did worse than them. This time, the Iberians will be hoping to achieve better results in France.

Co-captain Irene Paredes has been named by FIFA as one of the top players in her position in the world of Women's Football. At only 27-years-old, her leadership and experience, which come from her time at PSG, will come in handy to see La Roja improving their previous performance in this competition.

This is a defender that could be mistaken a midfielder on paper, with as many as 31 goals in 258 club football caps across 11 years and 8 goals in 60 matches at the national team level since doning La Roja's shirt in 2011.

Who is Spain's coach?

Jorge Vilda is Spain's coach for this tournament. The 37-year-old tactician has been the team's boss since the end of the 2015 Women's World Cup. Vilda was part of Spain's under-age teams, coaching the U-17 women's team from 2009 to 2014. Then, he took over the U-19 team's managerial duties. The Royal Spanish Federation trusted him with the senior team one year after being nominated for the 2014 FIFA Women's Coach of the Year Award.

As of May 8, Vilda has guided 47 Spain Women's matches. He has won 31, drawn seven, and lost nine as La Roja's senior team coach.
