Maradona's euphoric reaction after leading Dorados de Sinaloa to the next round of the Copa MX tournament is set to cause a stir among fans.
The Argentine, who recently returned to his duties as coach with the Mexican club, shared his views on the team's performance against Querétaro, which granted his club a spot among the top 16 teams in the competition. The only problem with his words is that he aimed a slight dig at La Albiceleste while praising his squad, something that will not go down well among Argentinean players currently involved with the National Team.
"I'm truly happy after watching how my players performed on the pitch. Each and everyone of them 'killed' themselves out there. Let me tell you that this is one of the best squads I've ever coached, it's even better than the Argentine National Team I led," Maradona said.
The team Maradona is referring to had players such as Lionel Messi, Carlos Tévez, Gonzalo Higuaín, Angel Di María, Javier Mascherano and Sergio Aguero, to name a few. The most recognizable name in Dorados' squad is that of Rubio Rubin, a rising U.S. footballer.
Maradona went on praising his team, adding that the inner competition between all players is what could give them an edge over their next opponent in the competition, while they also struggle to rise back to the top spots in the Ascenso MX league.
"All players here are equals. There is no distinction between those who play the league or the cup. The fight for a spot is what has made this squad a tough one to beat. Our loss against Atlante is in the past, we are ready to show our worth on the pitch, each one of my players did their best out there today," Maradona concluded.
