The Greek Football Cup, also known as the Greek Cup is an annual football competition for men’s clubs in Greece. It was founded in 1931, and is organized by the Hellenic Football Federation.
Olympiacos is the most successful team in Greek Cup history, with more titles won than any other side. Panathinaikos, AEK Athens, and PAOK are also teams who have won multiple titles in this competition.
Prior to 1971, all Greek teams - whether professional or amateur - were eligible to participate. However, starting from the 1971 edition of the Greek Cup, the rules were changed to only allow teams playing in the professional divisions to participate, while amateur teams would compete in the Amateur Cup instead.
Media rights for the Greek Cup in Greece have been under the umbrella of various entities over the decades. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, public network Greek Public Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) held TV broadcast rights. Paid-TV provider Nova TV briefly acquired media rights, before Mega Channel secured broadcast rights to the Greek Cup for the remainder of the 1990s.
During the first half of the 2000s, free-to-air networks Alpha TV and Antenna TV alternated between holding media rights to the competition. Starting from the second half of the 2000s, Nova TV regained media rights for the Greek Cup, until ERT secured coverage during the 2010s.
Since 2018, paid-TV provider Cosmote TV has held TV broadcast and live-streaming rights for the Greek Cup. In 2021, Cosmote TV renewed their rights to the Greek Cup after signing a multi-year deal with the Hellenic Football Federation.
