Report: Bayern Munich reject offer to sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Bayern Munich have rejected the chance to sign Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a report from Germany has revealed. The Bavarians were supposedly offered the 37-year-old striker by his agent but passed on the opportunity to bring the forward to Allianz Arena amid rumors of Robert Lewandowski's imminent departure.

On Friday, German publication BILD stated that Bayern were plotting to replace Robert Lewandowski with Cristiano Ronaldo should he leave the club this summer. Latest speculation has indicated that the Barcelona have tabled a $44M bid for the striker who is bent on leaving the Bundesliga before the new season begins. Despite advances by the club to convinced the attacker to stay, he has expressed his desire to leave and has even threatened to boycott the pre-season should his wish be denied.

Reports from England and Portugal have stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is reconsidering his future at Manchester United and could potential seal a move away. German news outlet SPORT1 subsequently reported that the forward was offered to Bayern by his agent Jorge Mendes and is willing to relocate to Germany.

However, according to Bayern Munich's sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić, a move to join the German champions is not being considered at all. Speaking to SkyDe, he said: "Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with an outstanding career. However, stories on potential deal with Bayern are NOT true."

Aside the fact that Bayern do not want to 'unbalance' their squad, Ronaldo potential wages is said to have influence the club's decision to stay away from making a move for him.
