As things stand, Borussia Dortmund are through to the round of 16 - provided they can avoid losing to Lazio. Die Schwarzgelben will be eager to avoid this and get some revenge on the Aquile following what many German pundits and Bundesliga fans felt was a shock defeat to the capital-based club on matchday one. Prior to their 3-1 win, Lazio had won just six of their last 14 meetings with German sides, but interestingly enough, one of those wins was against Dortmund.

Lazio's Ciro Immobile came back to haunt his former side, as last season's Capocannoniere and European Golden Shoe winner opened the scoring for the Aquile at the Stadio Olimpico as Simone Inzaghi's side eventually went on to comfortably out-play their opponents en route to their 3-1 result. The Biancocelesti are in the group stages for the first time since the 2007/2008 campaign, and Inzaghi, who is making his Champions League debut as a manager this season, will be hoping to steer the team to the round of 16 for the first time since the 1999/2000 term - when he himself was playing for them as a striker.

The visitors come into their penultimate group stage tie having beaten Zenit 3-1, with Immobile scoring a brace, and now sit four points ahead of Belgian side Club Brugge in second spot. They'll be keen on rebounding from a surprise 3-1 loss to Udinese at the weekend, which ended a four game unbeaten streak and has prevented them from moving into the European football spots.

That result also ended an eight match unbeaten run across all comps for Lazio, and now Immobile, who became the team's second all-time top goalscorer with his solitary effort against the Zebrette, will again be hoping to be the protagonist when he returns to Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday evening. Dortmund, however, will have other ideas. Lucien Favre's side also suffered a loss at the weekend as they slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat to Cologne, and they will be heavily relying on Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who has already scored six goals in this competition to help see them towards the round of 16.

Dortmund eased to a 3-0 win over Club Brugge last round, with Haaland grabbing a brace. A point against Lazio would suffice to secure their spot; however, if Zenit beat Brugge, then both die Schwarzgelben and the Aquile would automatically qualify for the next round. This game could also see another young Dortmund starlet make history; should Youssoufa Moukoko play, he will become the youngest ever player in Champions League history. Meanwhile, American youngster Gio Reyna could also best Christian Pulisic's record as the youngest USMNT player to score in the Champions League as he turned 18 just a few weeks ago.

Team news: Dortmund vs Lazio

Dortmund: Thomas Meunier, Marcel Schmelzer, and Dan-Axel Zagadou are all out with calf and knee injuries; meanwhile Emre Can is a doubt due to a bruised foot, along with Raphael Guerreiro, who recently suffered a muscular tear.

Lazio: The visitors have an overall healthier squad, with only Luiz Felipe set to miss out due to an ankle injury, while Vedat Muriqi recently sustained a knock.
