The league leaders will resume their domestic campaign with an away clash against fellow London side Brentford on Saturday, October 16th.

Preview: Brentford vs Chelsea

The last time Brentford and Chelsea met in the top flight was definitely well before all of the players and even their managers were even born; in fact, many of the players' parents themselves hadn't been born yet, either. That was back in March 1947, when the Blues won 2-0, but the Bees, who have had a solid start to their debut Premier League campaign will be hoping to add Chelsea to their list of scalps.

Indeed, Brentford have beaten Arsenal, West Ham, and drawn Crystal Palace, making them the first team in Premier League history to go unbeaten in their first three London derbies of a season. That's an impressive milestone for a club who haven't featured in the top flight since 1947, and they also have a very good track record when it comes to playing teams ranked first in the table. Saturday's hosts have lost just two of their last nine top flight matches against the league leaders, with their seven victories giving them an approximate win percentage of 78%, which indeed is the best performance of any team in English top-tier history.

Still, the Bees naturally will be the underdogs here. Chelsea, who are presently on top of the league, have lost just one of their last 12 away league matches since Thomas Tuchel took over, with eight wins during that run. They'll also be aiming to make history of their own - so far, they've won six consecutive away derbies, and if they can make it a lucky seventh, it will be a milestone achievement for the club. In addition, the Blues will look to take advantage their superior historical record against Brentford; the Bees haven't beaten Chelsea since a 3-1 road win in February 1938, and Chelsea cruised to comfortable 4-0 victories during their most recent meetings, which were during the 2013 and 2017 FA Cups.

Team news: Brentford vs Chelsea

Brentford: Shandon Baptiste is out for this match after dislocating his shoulder during the Bees' 2-1 win over West Ham, but Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Vitaly Janelt should all be fit to return after their respective injury lay-offs.

Chelsea: Antonio Rudiger is set to miss this game due to a back injury, while fellow defender Thiago Silva will also miss out due to international comittments with Brazil. However, Reece James, N'Golo Kante and Romelu Lukaku have all recovered and could play a role here. Christian Pulsic and Hakim Ziyech are still both out with an ankle injury and severe headaches respectively.
