Russia will target a second-place finish with a win whereas Denmark are still hanging on the thin thread to qualify.

Preview

The final outlook of Group B at Euro 2020 will go right down to the wire with the three teams behind Belgium all eligible to progress to the next round. While the Red Devils take on Finland in their final group game, Russia and Denmark will be locked in a battle for the No.2 slot on the table. For the former, they will be poised to add to the 1-0 win they registered against Finland in their second group game of the tournament.

Aleksei Miranchuk's sensational strike proved to be enough as the Fins picked up their first loss following their victory over Denmark in the opening game. Prior to that, Stanislav Cherchesov's side had picked up a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Belgium at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg. For Monday's encounter, a draw may just be enough to secure a Round of 16 berth for the 2018 FIFA World Cup host.

However, that will only be encouraged should Belgium defeat Finland in the other group encounter that will be played concurrently. To be on the safer side, a win will be essential for them, although the stakes are too high for Denmark to give them an easy passage. The story of the Danes brings a sour taste in the mouth of their fans taking into consideration the direction with which their charge has taken. Having seen the talismanic Christian Eriksen collapse on the field of play against Finland, they have struggled to find the rhythm which many dwelled on to tip them as prospective dark horses for the tournament.

An unfortunate 1-0 defeat against Finland greeted their curtain-raiser before Belgium complicated the task further by registering a 2-1 win. In fairness, it is not due to the lack of trying on the part of Kasper Hjulmand's men as their performance in both fixtures were quite admirable. Before the start of the European championship, they had lost just one game across their last 12 appearances in all competitions. They had won nine and had managed just two draws.

Denmark still retains a slender hope of qualification and that will only be possible should they defeat Russia and should Belgium get the better of Finland in the other clash.

Team news

Russia's Brazilian-born defender Mario Fernandes landed awkwardly after attempting a header in the recent win over Finland. As a result, he will be amiss when they take on Denmark on Monday. On the contrary, Hjulmand has nothing to worry about as far as the fitness of the players are concerned.

Predicted starting XI

  • Russia: Safonov; Barinov, Diveev, Dzhikiya; Karavaev, Ozdoev, Zobnin, Golovin, Kuzyaev; Miranchuk; Dzyuba

  • Denmark: Schmeichel; Wass, Kjaer, Christensen, Maehle; Delaney, Hojbjerg, Jensen; Braithwaite, Wind, Poulsen.
