The Premier League giants terminated Ronaldo's contract following his bombshell Piers Morgan interview, with the Old Trafford boss finally addressing the topic.

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to dominate the headlines, with the Portuguese superstar trending on social media after he was benched for his nation's FIFA World Cup round of 16 showdown with Switzerland.

The 37-year-old was also recently released by Manchester United after the club and player mutually agreed to a contract termination, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner now being heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Since that incident, a lot more has happened, including Tuesday's decision to bench the Real Madrid icon, thus distracting from the fallout at Old Trafford. However, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has given an interview for the first time since that decision and has broken his silence on the matter.

The Dutch tactician sat down with MUTV while at the club's winter camp in Spain and thus had to address the issue. Nonetheless, when asked about the club's January transfer plans and how he handled the Cristiano situation, Ten Hag gave a short and simple answer: it's time to move on.

"He's gone and it's the past. We are now looking forward and we're looking to the future," the former Ajax boss replied.

And the Premier League giants are already looking to the future. Manchester United have been heavily linked with Cody Gakpo and Rafael Leao, two highly-rated young attackers that have been impressing at Qatar 2022. Additionally, the club look to be targeting additions in other positions as well, namely a goalkeeper and a midfielder.

As for Ronaldo, he came off the bench in his country's impressive 6-1 victory over Switzerland. Goncalo Ramos, the man who led the line in Cristiano's absence, bagged a brilliant hat-trick in his first FIFA World Cup start and was named Man of the Match.

Speaking after the game, CR7 denied rumors of a contract agreement with Saudi club Al-Nassr and remains focused on captaining his country to glory. Next up for the Euro 2016 champions is an interesting quarterfinal encounter with Morocco this Saturday.
