Manchester City travel to League Two side Cheltenham Town in search of qualification to the fifth round of this season's FA Cup.

Match preview

Manchester City will travel to Cheltenham Town on Saturday as they look to book their ticket to the fifth round of the English cup competition. The Citizens will go to Whaddon Road off the back of a 3-0 win over Birmingham City in their third round cup tie and will hope to replicate the same result to get close to the season's objective.

Following a tough start to the season, Pep Guardiola's men have successfully turned things around to hit a purple patch in recent weeks. The Etihad outfit is now unbeaten in 16 appearances, winning 13 and drawing the remaining three games. Each of their last nine games have resulted in wins, with the club last dropping points in the 1-1 draw with West Brom in December 2020. Against Cheltenham, Man City will hope it will be another walk in the park with the visitors struggling to find form.

The Robins, despite ranking in the top half of the League Two table, have not had it easy in recent weeks. The Whaddon Road outfit is now chasing its first league win in seven outings. Their last two games have all ended in draws, with the win over Mansfield in the FA Cup third round tie being the only highlight in their last nine outings. Within that period, Micheal Duff's men have managed three defeats and five draws. Their scoring record has also been overly sub-par, managing just five goals in the nine games played.

Coming up against a Manchester City side that has conceded just a goal in 2021, the likelihood of an upset ensuing is quite insignificant. This, coupled with the fact that the Robins have recorded losses in all eight of their EFL Cup and FA Cup meetings with Premier League opposition, paints a fair picture of what should be expected from Saturday's clash.

Team news

Cheltenham will have Chris Hussey and Elliot Bonds missing in action as the pair are yet to recover from respective injuries. There is, however, a boost in the side with Sean Long passing a fitness test to avail himself for Saturday's clash.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are expected to miss the service of Sergio Aguero who remains in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus. Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker are also ruled out of the cup clash, after suffering injuries in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
