Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino will only quit managing Spurs if Real Madrid's managerial post becomes vacant. The 72-year-old English football manager has insisted that the Argentine will retain his position and turn things around with the North London outfit.
Spurs have endured a rather poor start to the new season and their status is reflected on the Premier League table where they seat ninth. After losing to League Two side Colchester in the Carabao Cup, the misery of the White Lilies was further compounded by a 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich at in the Champions League.
This was followed by a 3-0 defeat at Brighton in the subsequent weekend's Premier League outing. The successive run of losses have generated much criticism aimed at the players and, most importantly, Mauricio Pochettino.
However, ex-manager of the side Harry Redknapp has retained faith in the former Southampton manager, claiming that only the Real Madrid managerial job will be enticing enough to the latter's departure from Tottenham.
"I still think they'll finish third," he told the PA news agency. "They've got a fantastic squad, they've got cover everywhere and they've got international players everywhere.
"As a manager, I learned from a great manager in Alec Stock, he always said you have to change the players every couple of years or they change you.
"The same message every year becomes stale. You can only keep saying the same things so many times.
"Maybe five or six years in Pochettino needs a fresh start. He's a great manager, but maybe it's time for a change for him as well.
"But I don't think he'll go. Not unless the Real Madrid job comes up. I'm sure if that came up that would be a great job for him.
"But I think he's happy that he's got a great job at Tottenham."
