Didier Dechamps has offered an update on the fitness of N’Golo Kante after it was revealed the Chelsea superstar picked up an injury during the ongoing international break.
The Frenchman was one of many key names called up to Les Bleus’ squad for two Euro 2020 qualifying matches for the month of October. This came against Frank Lampard’s wishes as the former Leicester ace has been struggling for fitness and had only returned recently from injury for his Premier League side.
The midfielder was in line to start in Friday’s clash with Iceland but picked up an injury during warm-up and was thus replaced by Moussa Sissoko in the lineup. The France coach has now revealed that N’Golo felt pain in his groin muscle but insisted that it was nothing serious and that the 28-year-old was withdrawn as a pre-caution.

“He felt a pain in the adductor [groin] muscle,” Deschamps said after the match (as per the Metro). “He had a feeling where he did not feel comfortable to play.
“I made the decision [to pull him from the squad], because maybe it could get even worse. I knew Moussa would be ready.”
When asked if N’Golo will feature in the upcoming qualifier against Turkey, the manager gave a coy response, saying: “I do not think it’s too serious for NG [Kante], but I do not have an answer tonight.”
Despite Deschamps attempt to calm down the fears, Chelsea will be made to worry over their star midfielder. Kante has spent a large portion of the season on the sidelines, only making a return in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the league. He scored in that game and found the back of the net in the 4-1 triumph over Southampton.
