The Teranga Lions found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline in the opening minutes of their clash with Algeria.

The prelude of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Final between Senegal and Algeria was greeted with extraordinary scenes with the former conceding an early goal in a very bizarre fashion.

There was no time for niceties inside the 75,000 capacity Cairo International Stadium on Friday with Algeria going for the kill right after the ball was set rolling. The Desert Foxes were all over the place from the onset and their effort was duly rewarded in just two minutes after proceedings began.

A long kick from goalkeeper Rais coupled with swift passing moves on the left flank was converted into the game's opener with Baghdad Bounedjah's effort at goal deflecting off the foot of Senegal's Salif Sane. The latter who came in as the replacement for the suspended Kalidou Koulibaly, in an attempt to block the shot, rather redirected it past goalkeeper Alfred Gomis.

As it was the case in the group stage meeting between the two teams, Algeria taking the lead did not come as much of a surprise. In a bid to end their sterling campaign on a high, the North Africans ended up making their way into the history book of the African Cup of Nations.

Baghdad Bounedjah's goal is now the fastest-ever goal scored in the final of the competition since its inception.
