The Liverpool boss will face a familiar foe when the Bundesliga champion arrives at Anfield in Tuesday's round of 16 clash.

On Tuesday, Liverpool will lock horns with Bayern Munich in a highly-anticipated Champions League clash. This mouth-watering showdown will see Jurgen Klopp reignite his rivalry with the German giant he faced on numerous occasions in the Bundesliga.

While much of the pre-match talk surrounded the Reds' defensive woes, as Virgil Van Dijk is suspended and Lovren is tipped to join Gomez on the sidelines, the Jurgen factor is exciting in itself. The Normal One was the last man to challenge die Roten's supremacy, as his Dortmund side was the last team to win the German top-flight prior to the Bavarians' six straight titles.

Today, the task will be to eliminate Lewandowski and Co. from Europe. While the 51-year-old manager lost more often than not against Bayern Munich, the difference is slim. From his 23 meetings with the Allianz Arena outfit, Klopp won on nine occasions and suffered 10 defeats.

Is an 11th defeat to Bayern Munich loading for the Normal One?

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, UEFA Champions League

Could an 11th loss be loading for the animated tactician? The German led his side to an impressive European campaign last season upon their return to the Champions League, with Salah and Co. impressing at this very stage of the competition, and will thus be keen on repeating that once again.

In last season's round of 16, the Merseyside giant brushed aside Porto with ease in 2017/18. After putting five past the Portuguese giant in the first leg, the Anfield side then kept a clean sheet once more in the return leg to progress. Liverpool ended up going all the way to the final last season and will attempt to improve on that by winning the title this time around.

Sadio Mane was electrifying in that Valentine's Day victory at the Estadio do Dragao, but it was the Senegalese forward's deadly combination with Salah and Firmino that left everyone talking. While doubts have emerged over the Brazilian's participation, the Egyptian superstar is ready to wreak havoc and add to his tally of three goals so far this term.

While Klopp's track record against Bayern Munich favors the away side, Liverpool's head-to-head record against die Roten reads favorably for the host. These two European giants have met only five times, with the English side winning twice and losing only once. Interestingly, they have faced off at Anfield twice in those five run-ins and both games ended in goalless draws.

Jurgen will not want to share the spoils, however. With a trip to Bavaria awaiting, the Premier League club must do everything to earn a first-leg advantage. Their defensive crisis won't help but the team's lethal attackers might just be enough to earn Klopp the 10th win over Bayern Munich.
