Paris Saint-Germain sets Ligue 1 record with 9-0 demolition of Guingamp

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain reached new heights with Saturday's result at home to Guingamp. A commanding display by Thomas Tuchel's side ensured an emphatic 9-0 scoreline and a third straight win for the defending champions as their unbeaten run in the league this season extended to 19.

The massacre took off in full swing after Neymar Jr. opened the scoring inside the 11th minute. The Brazilian finished the game with two goals under his belt, taking his Ligue 1 goal return for the Parisians since joining from Barcelona last season to 32 in 33 games.

Nonetheless, fellow attacking partners Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe stole the spotlight with the pair grabbing a hat trick apiece in the mauling. Right-fullback Thomas Meunier subsequently flexed his attacking prowess by putting the icing on the cake for PSG with the final goal of Saturday's encounter. 

The French capital club would have undoubtedly love to make it to double figures with the historic archive revealing that it has achieved the feat before. The first time Les Parisien finished a match with a nine-goal margin was away to Troyes back in March 2016.

That withstanding, a new record was birthed with the 9-0 outcome marking Paris Saint-Germain's best-ever result in Ligue 1 on home soil at Parc des Princes. In a relative development, Kylian Mbappe's three goals ensured that he became the first player this season to be involved in 20 goals for his side in the league. The 20-year-old Frenchman has now registered 16 goals and four assists.
