After finishing last season as the runners-up, Marseille will begin the current Europa League campaign at home with a clash against Eintracht Frankfurt. The hosts were beaten 3-0 by Atletico Madrid and will face Frankfurt for the first time in European competition on Thursday evening, and having had a strong run in Europe's second-tier competition last season, will hope to do the same as they open their European campaign in front of their home fans.

As for Frankfurt, they earned their spot in the Europa League thanks to their stunning victory over Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal last season under then-manager Niko Kovac. That marked their first piece of silverware in three decades and means that Frankfurt are back in the Europa League for the first time since the 2013/2014 season when they were knocked out by Porto in the round of 32.
