The Spanish giants' fans didn't show that much interest in watching their first match of the 2018-19 La Liga season.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have enjoyed success inside the pitch, but some of their fans have decided to turn their backs against them in their first match of the season.

Real Madrid has even more reasons to worry about the attendance to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The official amount of fans that saw Los Blancos beat Getafe yesterday live from the home represents the lowest amount of fans attending the Bernabeu in almost a decade, since only 48,466 fans paid a ticket to witness their first game of the season, which represents 59% of the venue's capacity.

Some La Liga experts suggest that this phenomenon has to do with the fact that Los Blancos haven't signed any top-caliber players to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Others believe that the team's loss against Atlético and the game's kickoff time (22:15 CEST) had something to do with the low attendance numbers.

But if Barcelona fans thought this had to do with Real Madrid's poor display in Wednesday's Super Cup, they will be baffled to know that their team only gathered 52,356 fans at Camp Nou on Saturday's clash, marking the team's lowest attendance in an opening game of the season in almost a decade.

Saturday's attendance means that Camp Nou stadium was just 50% above its full capacity.

Will it have to do with the fact that La Liga has become a battle between two teams, with the only exception of the 2013-14 campaign that saw Atlético claiming the title? Only time will tell...
