All eyes are on UEFA Women’s Champions League Matchday 5 action. The two most anticipated matches of the week are Group A’s Chelsea-Juventus on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and Group C’s Arsenal-Barcelona on Thursday, Dec. 9.
Chelsea will host Juventus at Kingsmeadow Park in London on Wednesday. La Vecchia Signora will look to avenge a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of the Blues earlier in the Champions League campaign. However, Emma Hayes’ Chelsea is flying at the moment after submitting Arsenal 3-0 in the FA Women’s Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Juve seems to be in the middle of it all with their upcoming away game against Chelsea and Wolfsburg chasing them in the group table. The Blues lead the group with 10 points, Juventus is second with seven, and Wolfsburg third with five points. Juventus can seal their ticket to the next round with a draw against Chelsea.
On the other hand, European reigning champions Barcelona will travel to Meadow Park in London to face a deflated Arsenal team.
Despite the Gunners’ success so far in the 2021/22 Barclays FA Women’s Super League campaign, they have to face the queens of Europe just days after a demoralizing loss to rivals Chelsea in a cup final. At the other end of the pitch, Barca is reliving their flawless 2020/21 season as we speak. The Catalonian side has won all 12 of their league games with a goal differential of 69 goals so far this season.
