The English Premier League returns to action after some of its members played in European tournaments with mixed results. Now, the English top-flight will give fans quite a few thrills with the matches that are set to be played this weekend.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City will continue their toe-to-toe race for the top spot of the league, as there are only two points between the first and third-placed teams. Brighton and Tottenham will also try to keep their spot among the top five, while other clubs like Manchester United make their case to return to the group that is set to fight for the title.

Here are the main points you need to consider prior to the start of this weekend's games.

League standings ahead of Matchweek 9 in the English Premier League

As previously stated, Chelsea top the league with nineteen points, while Liverpool are one point behind the Blues. The clash between Manchester City and Brighton could see the league with a new third place, but the main event of the weekend will see Liverpool taking on Manchester United in a clash for the ages.

Top games to watch in Matchweek 6 in the English Premier League

Chelsea vs Norwich City: The Blues continue to defend their top spot, and this time they enter Stamford Bridge to face Norwich City, the team with the worst record in the tournament after eight matchdays. The main issue for Thomas Tuchel's men will be the absence of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, who left their midweek game against Malmö with injuries. As for Norwich, Daniel Farke's men are still looking for their first win of the season, but judging by their performances this year, it seems highly unlikely to see them win at Chelsea's stadium.

Brighton vs Manchester City: The Cityzens make it to this game with in high spirits following their 5-1 win in the UEFA Champions League. Regarding their rivals, the team led by Graham Potter claimed one point against Norwich last week, and while their performances at home have been quite consistent, it seems that this time their visitors could take the win home.

Manchester United vs Liverpool: The big game of the weekend will feature the Red Devils in a complicated moment of the season, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make it to this clash with only one point out of the last nine in the Premier League. On the other hand, Klopp's men make it to Old Trafford as the only unbeaten team in the league and with the best offensive unit, led by Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah. All the ingredients needed for a great game are set, which is why we believe this will be the game to watch on Sunday.
