Lampard’s men visit the King Power Stadium having picked up only seven points from the last 21 available. Will they beat the Foxes? Here’s our preview of Leicester vs Chelsea.

Preview – Leicester vs Chelsea

Chelsea are gearing up for a crucial midweek clash with Leicester, taking on Brendan Rodgers' high-flying side at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday in what should be a crucial fixture in the Premier League.

The Foxes are giving it their all with their title challenge as they aim to pull off a repeat of their 2015/16 heroics. The Blues, on the other hand, have one goal in mind heading into this fixture and that is to get their top-four push back on track after several disappointing top-flight results.

Lampard's men head into this fixture on the back of a win, beating Fulham 1-0 on Saturday. However, it was not a convincing display from Werner and Co. and thus did little to erase the three-game winless run they went on prior to the weekend result. Regardless, the London giants boast only two triumphs from their last seven fixtures and thus cannot afford another slip up.

Much has been said about the form of marquee summer signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, with the latter in particular coming under heavy scrutiny over his clinicality, or lack thereof, in front of goal. The German striker has now gone 10 straight games in the Premier League without a goal, a worrying stat for Lampard given the money spent on luring him from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge.

As for the home side, they recently beat Southampton 2-0 and are now third in the table, sitting a point above Liverpool after their goalless draw with Man United. The victory over the Saints was a hard-fought triumph, with goals from Maddison and Barnes handing the Foxes the precious three points. A win over Chelsea would see Vardy and Co. go top of the league temporarily, and should Man City and Man Utd slip up in their upcoming fixtures, Leicester could hold on to the first spot.

Team news

Leicester: Jamie Vardy aggravated a hip issue in the 2-0 win over Southampton but is expected to be fit for this tie. Nampalys Mendy will face a late test to determine his fitness while Dennis Praet remains on the sidelines.

Chelsea: N'Golo Kante is out for this fixture due to a hamstring injury. Christensen, on the other hand, is back and available for selection. It will be interesting to see whether Werner starts on the bench or in the lineup, having been left out of the first XI in two of the last three league games.

Key stats

  • Chelsea have failed to win any of their last five Premier League clashes with Leicester.

  • However, in that five-game unbeaten run, the Foxes have managed only one victory, drawing the remaining four encounters.

  • In the Blues last eight league trips to the King Power Stadium, they have lost only once (W5, D2).

  • Lampard's men have picked up only seven points from the last 21 available.
