After a disappointing result against Liverpool last weekend, Chelsea will now have to re-group and re-focus as they welcome Championship side Barnsley for a League Cup clash.

Preview: Chelsea vs Barnsley

Chelsea come into this match having suffered a demoralizing 2-0 loss to Liverpool over the weekend. The defeat was even more notable as it marked the first time that the Blues had failed to avoid a defeat against the reigning champs on home turf; prior to the loss, the London powerhouse had gone 13 matches unbeaten (W7 D6).

Meanwhile, their upcoming visitors Barnsley arrive having failed to win their first two league fixtures, with a 1-0 home defeat to Luton Town followed by a 2-0 loss on the road against Reading. However, the Tykes, who managed to escape demotion to League One last season, have fared much better in the League Cup so far, with wins over fellow Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough to book their ticket to the third round.

As such, it goes without saying that Frank Lampard's men will want to get back to winning ways quickly. So far, neither Timo Werner nor Kai Havertz have been able to open their respective accounts for their new club, so this could present a good opportunity for the German duo to finally grab that first goal.

Team news: Chelsea vs Barnsley

Chelsea: The most notable change will be the man in between the sticks. Veteran shot-stopper  Willy Caballero will replace the under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga as is custom for league cup fixtures. Meanwhile, Danish international Andreas Christensen is banned for this game after being sent off during the Blues' loss to Liverpool. In addition, both Christian Pulisic and new signing Hakim Ziyech are still out injured.

Fans, however, may see new defenders Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell make their debuts in this game after both were included in the squad.

Barnsley: The visitors have three players suspended for this match. Both Mads Andersen and Michal Helik were sent off during the team's 2-0 loss to Reading, while Bambo Diaby is also banned for a prior incident.
