The Red Devils will travel to Kenilworth Road for their EFL Cup third-round encounter with the Hatters.

Match preview

Luton Town will welcome Manchester United to their home grounds for a third-round Carabao Cup clash on Tuesday. Unlike the opponent they face, the Hatters have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2020/2021 season, and could top that up by defying odds to progress to the next round at the expense of the Red Devils.

Nathan Jones' men have already featured twice in the Carabao Cup this season. They began their quest with a surprise 3:1 home win over Norwich City before registering a 1-0 victory away to Reading on September 15.

Luton will invariably approach Tuesday's clash as underdogs hoping to make a statement. Against Manchester United, they will seek to draw inspiration from an unbeaten run that stretches back to July. The Kenilworth Road outfit have successively won their last nine games in all competitions and have drawn twice in their last 11 while losing none.

For Manchester United, the objective will be to return to winning ways following the disappointment in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils suffered a 3:1 home defeat against Crystal Palace in their season opener in what was generally a poor performance. In retrospect, the club's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attributed the loss to Palace to the relatively less preparation and rest that his side had ahead of the new season.

Having finished last season on August 17 after the Europa League semi final defeat to Sevilla, the United squad had just a week of rest and subsequently resumed. With the coronavirus pandemic not making an overseas preseason possible, they featured in just one against Aston Villa which they lost.

In the grand scheme of things, the Red Devils have been a little above average in terms of their recent form. Prior to losing all of their last three matches, they had registered just one defeat in 19 games before that. A swift turn around is of the essence for Solskjaer side and this renaissance could be inspired with a win in the upcoming test with Luton.

Team news: Who is injured or suspended for Luton Town vs Manchester United?

Dan Potts will be unavailable for Luton against Manchester United through injury. Brendan Galloway and Eunan O'Kane will also have no role to play in the encounter for the Championship club. However, Tom Lockyer should be available after recovering from a thigh injury.
