Obafemi deals Manchester United heartbreak with 96th-minute equalizer for Southampton [Video]

Manchester United were dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of Champions League football for next season following Monday night's draw with Southampton. A 96th minute strike by Obafemi tied the game at 2-2, putting the Red Devils' chance of finishing in the top-four in the balance.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were on course to usurping third-placed Chelsea after holding onto a 2-1 lead for over 90 minutes. First half goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial restored a sense of calmness in the camp of the hosts after Stuart Armstrong had grabbed the game's opener inside 12 minutes.

With substitute Brandon Williams taking a heavy blow to the head following a clash at the latter part of the encounter, the Red Devils were forced to complete the proceeding with 10 men on the field. The game's turning point then ensued moments later as Obafemi bundled home James Ward-Prowse's corner-kick which had been directed towards goal by Jan Bednarek.

While the result ensured that the pride of Southampton remained intact, Manchester United were left to rely on other results to secure a place in the top four. The Old Trafford outfit now have three games left and would seal a place in next season's Champions League should they win all. This includes the final day trip to Leicester City.
