RB Leipzig will be keen on ensuring that they maintain their grip on a top four spot when they travel to face Mainz on Sunday, May 24th. Live Soccer TV's match preview provides match facts, team news and global broadcast listings for Mainz vs. RB Leipzig.

Preview: Mainz vs RB Leipzig

Mainz come into this match feeling confident after they battled their way back to a draw against Köln. Although they are in 15th place, they are unbeaten in their last three games for the first time all season, and moreover, they can again rely on Jean-Philippe Mateta up front which will give Achim Beierlorzer some additional selections for his starting XI.

Leipzig are unbeaten in their last five games, but three of them have been draws, which have cost them six valuable points. In addition, their star striker, Timo Werner, has failed to score in his last eight games, and he certainly will be hoping to end his barren run in front of goal this weekend. Part of his frustration, though, has been due to being played out of position to accomodate Roma loanee Patrik Schick, and it will be very interesting to see if Julian Naglesmann benches the Czech striker again like he did last weekend to give Werner a chance to feature in his preferred position for this match.

From Leipzig's perspective, they will come into this game knowing the result from the Gladbach versus Leverkusen game on Saturday. If Leverkusen win that match, they will temporarily overtake them and jump into third place, thus putting further pressure on die Bullen ahead of their trip to Mainz's home ground as they will have slid down into fifth even before they have kicked a ball. If Gladbach win, then they will still remain in fourth, but naturally will want to close the gap as they don't want to have Leverkusen breathing down their necks from now until the end of the season in the battle for a Champions League berth.

Team news: Mainz vs RB Leipzig

Mainz: Fortunately for the hosts, attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta is back in action after serving a ban, so that gives them more options up front. Goalkeeper Robin Zentner is their only absentee, meaning that Beierlorzer has a full-strength squad to choose from for this game.

RB Leipzig: Emil Forsberg is a major doubt as he continues to deal with a bad bout of tonsilitis. Meanwhile, Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu also could miss this game as a result of a back injury. The visitors also will be welcoming Dayot Upamecano back from suspension, which is a huge boost for Naglesmann in defense.
