FIFA set to make official statement on out of contract players

One of the main problems some teams were facing to finish off the season after the coronavirus pandemic was that involving their out of contract players. Today, a football reporter in Mexico has shed light on FIFA's plans on this matter.

According to David Medrano's column in Mexican newspaper Record, football's governing body has decided to offer the clubs a chance to extend the contracts of those players that ended their commitment to any club this summer. The only condition for that to happen will be to pay the extra month or months to those players.

The inquiries came from Liga MX teams that will have to sort things out when the tournament resumes, especially since some players had already agreed deals with clubs from other leagues. FIFA's extension will ensure the continuity of the competition regardless of the time it takes to complete.

Medrano adds that FIFA's announcement will come in the next weeks, but it will come once we have a better idea on when all leagues in the world will go back to business.

Players such as Willian, Edinson Cavani, Thomas Meunier, Mario Götze, Jan Vertonghen and more are out of a contract this summer, but fans around the world will be able to see some of their favorite players extending their stays at their current teams for quite a bit more.
