The Blaugrana hit a historic low after their UCL loss on Friday and could be set for several changes as a result.

Barcelona vs Bayern Munich was a highly-anticipated Champions League quarter-final game but what was expected to be an exciting tie turned into an absolute debacle for the Blaugrana. The Catalan giants endured their most embarrassing night in football, losing by a whopping eight goals to two in Friday's encounter.

Not only was this their worst defeat in Champions League history, but this result was also Barcelona's worst loss in all competitions since 1946. The aftermath of the 8-2 defeat has continued into the following day and will likely dominate the headlines for the foreseeable future until change occurs at the club.

While the club has been rotting for years without solution, this latest embarrassment looks set to spark change at the Camp Nou. One thing that could take place is a squad overhaul. Speaking after the final whistle, a shattered Gerard Pique offered to walk away from the club if that is what was required to save the falling giants, adding that they have hit rock bottom. Although the rebuilding process will not happen overnight, there's no hiding from the fact that the Blaugrana are plagued by an aging XI in dire need of fresh blood, with the average age of Friday's lineup being nearly 30.

One thing that is almost certain is Setien's sacking. As we reported earlier, the gaffer is said to have already been fired after the midweek horror show. While nothing is official, Pochettino is already being linked with the Camp Nou job. Others hint that the plan to bring back club icon Xavi will be fast-forwarded.

These revelations emerged immediately after the game and have already been covered. However, new rumors are emerging this morning and they are in regards with Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Barcelona president has promised changes, stating that some have already taken place while others will occur over time. Regardless, fans have been vocal in demanding his resignation.

The Camp Nou executive is into the final year of his reign and will leave the club in the summer of 2021 when the next presidential elections are held. However, rumors claim that the players are demanding that the elections be brought forward to this year. This is a sentiment echoed by Victor Font, one of the leading candidates to succeed Bartomeu, as he called for the current head to step down after overseeing one of the worst embarrassments.

"It's been too many years of sadness and shame, but tonight has only one name: humiliation. We can no longer prolong the agony nor waste any more precious time. Resign, Bartomeu, hold elections as soon as possible and together, we can rebuild the club and return hope to Barça"

One interesting claim by Ignacio Miguelez of El Confidencial is that the players have handed the board an ultimatum: bring forward the elections or we will leave. This could be groundbreaking if Lionel Messi is the man leading this push as the Argentine icon is said to be pondering over a Camp Nou exit. The 8-2 defeat will do little to convince him to stay.

"The Barça squad demands elections. Either change the course of the club now, or they leave. The threat is clear."
