The Bundesliga outfit has slapped the player with a fine for defying orders.

Bayern Munich has released a statement confirming that Jerome Boateng has been handed a fine by the club. The 31-year-old German international was sanctioned by the Bundesliga side on Wednesday after breaching quarantine guidelines and featuring in a car accident.

A report by German news outlet Bild revealed that Boateng was on his way to Munich after visiting his sick son in Leipzig. However, he was caught unaware by a hailstorm near Selbitz (283km outside of Munich) and his car ended up crashing into a guardrail on the motorway as he was without winter tires.

Boateng came out of the crash without any injures but ended up incurring €25,000 worth of damage to his car. Relatively, he was not spared by his club Bayern as he defied its orders to remain indoors. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, all players of the Bavarians were advised to remain in self-isolate with none permitted to travel outside Munich.

"Bayern defender Jérôme Boateng left Munich yesterday without permission from the club," the statement read.

"Boateng has transgressed the guidelines issued by the club by being too far away from his home.

"These guidelines govern the behavior of the FC Bayern players in the current situation in line with the Bavarian state government's directives on restrictions on movement and the recommendations of the health authorities.

"FC Bayern believes the club has a responsibility to be a role model. As a consequence of this transgression, the club has decided to impose a fine on Boateng. The club will donate the money to Munich hospitals."

Jerome Boateng is edging towards the Bayern exit door with his current contract ending in June 2021. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and striker Thomas Muller also have their contracts ending the same period and the trio is rumored to be awaiting an extension.
