After all the ink and hours that were spent going back and forth between those who supported Marc-André Ter Stegen and those who back Manuel Neuer as Germany's first-choice goalie, coach Joachim Löw has made a statement that might leave some confused, but is a clear declaration of intentions ahead of the next few years.
Speaking in today's press conference, Löw shared the solution he agreed with both goalkeepers.
"We have spoken with both goalkeepers. Neuer will play the game against Belarus, and Ter Stegen will be playing against Northern Ireland," Löw said.
Löw's choice has to do with the relevance of each game. The clash against Belarus could give Germany their ticket for the 2020 UEFA Euro, while the second clash could only serve as a proper ending to the Qualifiers. With Neuer guarding the net in the first game, it's clear that his loyalty remains with Bayern's goalkeeper.
When the time comes for Ter Stegen under the sticks, he will put an end to a two-year hiatus as Germany's goalie. His last game under the national team's sticks took place on October 5, 2017, in a game where Die Mannschaft defeated Northern Ireland.
