On Sunday, USWNT took on Costa Rica in their final game of 2019. What followed was the perfect result to what has been a perfect year for the Stars and Stripes, beating the Central American nation 6-0.

Carli Lloyd broke the deadlock after only four minutes, with Williams grabbing a second-half brace. It was an impressive result from a team that has been nothing been rampant all year which will be remembered mostly for their sweeping FIFA Women's World Cup success.

It was a thrilling, action-packed semi-final between the USA and England – two of the best teams in women's football. Two goals, one from each team, were scored inside 20 minutes before Alex Morgan netted the winning strike in the 31st-minute. What followed was a celebration that immediately grabbed the headlines.

The Orlando Pride attacker performed a tea celebration, which became a hot topic as it irked the English as they perceived it to be a dig at their love for tea. Morgan brushed off those accusations but it remained a talking point nonetheless.

While Alex Morgan's celebration irked some, there was one that won the Internet. This came courtesy of Megan Rapinoe, who won both the Golden Ball and Boot.

This came in the quarter-final showdown with France, the home nation. After breaking the deadlock after only five minutes courtesy of a free-kick, the 34-year-old held her arms wide out, striking a confident and defiant pose that inspired many. This iconic celebration won over the Internet and was even used as a Donald Trump meme.

With Alex Morgan being 30, Megan Rapinoe being 34, and Carli Lloyd being 37; three of USA's most talented players in history are either on the brink of retirement of fast approaching it. Fortunately, 2019 has seen one young lady show that she is ready to become the next ace.

She is none other than Rose Lavelle, the 24-year-old midfielder who scored three goals in six appearances in the 2019 Women's World Cup. Her best strike came in the final as she netted a solo goal in the 2-0 win over the Netherlands. Since then, she has gone from strength to strength, grabbing two assists in their final game of 2019.

Everything comes to an end and all we can wish for is to close a chapter on an excellent note. This is exactly what Jill Ellis did. After guiding USWNT to back-to-back Women's World Cup titles, the English manager announced that she would be calling an end to her reign with the Stars and Stripes.

This means she stepped down as the nation's most successful and long-serving manager. It was an unforgettable tenure, one that has gone down in history.

Following Ellis was never going to be an easy task for her successor, but this is one newly-appointed coach Vlatko Andonovski is ready to tackle. So far, things have begun well for the USA's current manager. In his first two games in charge, his side have scored a whopping nine times. Carli Lloyd has played a key part, netting three times. With the Olympics fast approaching, this is reassuring for the most successful team in women's football.
