Preview: Schalke vs Bayern Munich

Bayern's season opener didn't go as planned, as die Roten needed Robert Lewandowski to bail them out - twice - in order to come from behind agaainst Hertha Berlin. Now, Niko Kovac's men will travel to face Schalke as they chase their first win of the season.

It's stilll early, but with Dortmund winning their season opener, Bayern will be looking to get up and running fast. They've secured the services of Philippe Coutinho in a bid to freshen up the attack, but as he's not fully match fit, he won't feature here. However, Ivan Perisic, who was also signed on loan, could make some kind of appearance after missing out on the season opener due to a suspension that carried over from Serie A.

Big money signing Lucas Hernández could also make his long awaited debut after not featuring in pre-season due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery that had him recovering throughout the summer. As for Schalke, they come into this game having drawn with Borussia M'gladbach and will be hoping to have a much better campaign than last season which barely saw them avoid relegation.

Now under the tutelage of David Wagner, they'll be keen to avoid the same kind of slump from the 2018/2019 term, during which it took them until matchday six to finally pick up their first points, and so far, at least, they've avoided that. However, they have failed to score in six of their last eight home games, and they didn't score against Gladbach. Will they end that frustrating run when Bayern come to town?
