The Dutch defender firmly believes that he made the right decision by joining the bianconeri this summer.

Dutch center back Matthijs De Ligt was the main character in one of the most publicized deals of the summer transfer window, with comments flying back and forth about his real intentions and how he apparently snubbed a previous agreement with Barcelona.

Today, speaking to Voetbal International, the former Ajax footballer admitted that a move to the Catalan giants was on the table, but there were some details about that deal that did not satisfy him entirely, forcing him to search for other options.

"There were many voices out there that told me to join Barcelona, but I told myself that I needed to analyze everything and see what was best for me,"De Ligt said.

The 19-year-old footballer, who made his debut with the bianconeri in the 3-2 loss against Tottenham in the International Champions Cup, dismissed all claims that hinted he chose to join Juventus because of the wage he is set to collect with the bianconeri.

"Money had nothing to do with my decision. Mino (Raiola) is my agent and he handles the commercial side of things, but that happened only after I made a decision based on what I wanted for my future in this sport. Money has never been the main issue," De Ligt added.

The former Ajax captain referred to his relationship with Frenkie De Jong, who also left the Dutch side to join Barcelona. While the center back admitted that it would have been nice to have him around, he chose to follow his own path away from his good friend.

"Frenkie and I discussed our future often. We were honest to each other, and it would have been cool to keep playing together, but our careers shouldn't depend on whether we are playing for the same team or not. In the final hour, you need to have a good vibe with the team you choose, and that's why I joined Juventus," De Ligt concluded.
