FIFA Women's World Cup: Where to watch Sweden vs the USWNT live on June 20

Current form: Sweden vs USA

Not surprisingly, both Sweden and the USWNT have had excellent starts to this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup. Placed in a quartet with debutants Chile and minnows Thailand, everyone figured it would be a straightforward battle for top spot between the Blågult and the Stars and Stripes in Group F.

And that is how things have panned out. The USWNT set a new record for the most goals scored in a Women's World Cup match as they humiliated Thailand 13-0 on matchday one, before picking up a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Chile on matchday two. Sweden, for their part, have earned six points out of six thanks to a 2-0 win against Chile, and although they did concede a goal versus Thailand, it turned out to be a mere consolation for the Asian side as Peter Gerhardsson's squad cruised to a relatively comfortable 5-1 success.

The USWNT come into this game in excellent form, as they are on a seven match winning streak. Sweden, for their part, have turned a corner after a bumpy start to 2019, and now the Nordic nation have won four on the spin prior to their upcoming titantic tussle with a very familiar foe.

With Chile and Thailand facing off in the other match that seems nothing but a battle for pride at this point, it will be the Blågult and the Stars and Stripes, as expected, duking it out for top spot in Group F.

Match facts and stats: Sweden vs USA

  • These two sides are very familiar with each other - having faced off 39 times as of 2017
  • However, it's Team USA who hold the superior head-to-head record, with 21 wins versus Sweden's seven (11 draws)

Team news: Sweden vs USA

Sweden: Peter Gerhardsson appears to have a full-strength squad at his disposal, and he will naturally deploy his strongest starting line-up in order to earn maximum points and try to pip the USWNT to top spot in their quartet.

USA: No injuries or suspensions of note, meaning that Ellis will field her strongest XI here. She opted to heavily rotate her team against Chile, leaving players like Alex Morgan (who netted five times against Thailand), Tobin Heath, and Megan Rapinoe on the bench, but all three could feature against Sweden.
