Manchester United legend urges team NOT to sign Gareth Bale

The signing of Gareth Bale might seem to be an interesting proposition to some Manchester United fans, but some former Red Devils' players remain unconvinced.

In fact, Manchester United's all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney urged the team not to sign Bale under any circumstance, not even if he is involved in a deal -such as the one that could send Paul Pogba to the Bernabeu- or as a solo deal.

Speaking to the BBC, Rooney was quite adamant to try and see Bale not joining the Red Devils, since he is not the type of player they need right now, according to himself.

"The first thing Ole has to do is build the squad and I don't think bringing in one or two players for £100m is going to help the players already there," Rooney stated.

According to Rooney, spending that kind of money in high-profile transfers may give Manchester United immediate success, but on the long run, it will worsen things for them.

"You could bring in players in Ronaldo, Messi, Ramos or Bale but it's going to cost you £350million and you'd get two years out of them and you've written that money off," the striker added.

Rooney went on to explain how he would carry out the much-needed overhaul at Old Trafford, urging Solskjaer to follow his advice.

"He's better spending £30million to 40million on players with potential and building the squad around those five or six players," Rooney concluded.

Manchester United is expected to sell over 14 players during the current transfer window. As of now, Daniel James is the team's only signing, and considering the amount paid by Manchester United on his transfer, it seems that Solskjaer is following Rooney's plan.
