Sweden will be out to avoid defeat in order to secure their place in the knockout round when they face-off with Poland.

Preview

Sweden will take on Poland inside the Saint Petersburg Stadium in their final group game of the ongoing European Championship. Janne Andersson's men will approach the encounter knowing that a defeat will be enough to take them to the promised land while their opponents will only sail through with a win. The former began this summer's tournament vital 0-0 draw with Spain and have since followed this up with a 1-0 win over Slovakia. Thanks to Emil Forsberg hitting the target, the Blue and Yellow climb to No.1 on the chart with four points.

Following closely is Slovakia who took three points off of Poland in their opening game while Spain completes the top three with two points after successive draws with Sweden and Poland. For the Swedes, their recent run at the tournament adds up to the impressive unbeaten streak they have managed since the turn of the year. In the seven games that they have featured in within the period, Andersson's men have recorded six wins and one draw, keeping six cleansheets as well.

Switching focus back to the Euros, Sweden, a draw should be able to guarantee Sweden a place in the Round of 16 regardless of the outcome in the Spain-Slovakia game. In a worse case scenario where they pick up a defeat, they could be eliminated against the backdrop that the other group fixture ends in a draw. All in all, their rivals will be out to ruin the party especially, considering the fact that they will only be guaranteed a place in the next round with a win.

Poland began the Euros with a 1-1 draw with Spain before falling to a 2-1 defeat against Slovakia in their Group E outing. Their fate has seen them occupying the bottom position with just a point and a game to go. Indeed, the run they have accumulated so far fairly depicts their struggles in recent months. Prior to the commencement of the tournament, they have managed just one victory from their last seven outings - with three ending in losses and the other three in draws. This barely gives room for optimism for fans of Poland and the fact that the head to head comparison also favors the Swedes complicates the situation.

So far, there have been 26 games played between the two teams and the Poles have only managed eight wins as against the 14 of their counterparts. The remaining four matches have been draws.

Team news

Sweden welcomed the return of Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg after being cleared to return to action having self-isolated with COVID-19. Their return is complimented by the fact that the Blagult have no injury concerns ahead of their group finale.

For Poland, there is a boost in the side with Grzegorz Krychowiak set to return to the starting lineup. The midfielder missed the previous defeat to Sweden after being sent off in the opening game against Spain.
