Manchester City aim to extend their record-breaking winning run when they welcome Wolves to the Etihad in Tuesday's Premier League outing.

Preview

Man City will be looking to extend their winning run in the Premier League to 15 when they host Wolves at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night. The Citizens are currently on the roll and it will, without doubt, take some doing for any club to stop their impressive form that has seen them gather 20 consecutive wins across all competitions.

Over the weekend, Guardiola’s men extended their points lead atop the table to 13 with a 2-1 victory over West Ham. Ruben Dias and John Stones ensured the day’s triumph by getting on the scoresheet, with the pair having also played a crucial role in the club’s success story this season. The formidable defensive partnership between them has seen their side concede just 16 goals across 26 outings this season - the fewest managed by a Premier League club this season.

On the back of this, Man City also rank second on the most-goals scored chart, with rivals Manchester United edging them to the top spot with just a goal. Needless to say, the former will have their sight set on establishing a 15-point lead between them and their local rivals with a win over Wolves. Recent meetings between them and Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been unpredictable with some interesting results going in favor of the Molineux outfit.

While City will enter Tuesday’s clash as the winner of the reverse fixture earlier this season, Wolves have a better head to head record across the last three games with two wins to their name. Their last trip to the Etihad was a successful one as they managed to run away with a 2-0 win. Nevertheless, the form they exhibited in seasons past is unlike what they have shown this season.

The ride has been topsy-turvy for Wolves this season but they will approach the upcoming game off the back of a three-game unbeaten run. In the grand scheme of things, they have won four of their last 10 outings, losing three and drawing the remaining three. In the Premier League, the away form of the Molineux club, who sit in the 12th position on the league table, has been subpar, managing just four wins from 13 outings.

Against a Man City side that has not lost a game since November last year, Nuno’s men will benefit hugely from a swift change in fortune. And with a tough run of matches against Aston Villa, West Ham and Liverpool all around the corner, the significance of a win against Pep side cannot be under emphasized.

Team news

Manchester City will have only Nathan Ake absent as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury. For Willy Boly, Raul Jimenez, Daniel Podence and Fernando Marcal are all ruled out as a result of injuries. No player in each of the sides is suspended for the encounter.

Predicted starting XI

  • Man City possible starting lineup: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Bernardo, Sterling, Foden

  • Wolves possible starting lineup: Patricio; Dendoncker, Coady, Saiss; Semedo, Neves, Moutinho, Jonny; Traore, Willian Jose, Neto
