Tottenham Hotspur will aim to return to winning ways when they travel to bottom dwellers Sheffield United on Sunday.

Match preview

Sheffield United will host Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane in Sunday's round 18 fixture. The Blades will be poised to defy the odds when the North Londoners come to town following their exploits in their previous league outing against Newcastle. Having experienced a torrid time in the premiership without recording a single win since the start of the season, Chris Wilder's men finally got their first three points by putting a goal past the Magpies. The result subsequently ended Sheffield's winless run that stretched as far back as July 2020.

Over the period, they managed 18 defeats and two draws, setting the record for the worst-ever start to a Premier League season in-between. In fairness, the Blades have shown glimpses of the form that made neutrals fall in love with their style of football last season although they have not done enough to get good results to compliment their effort. Going into Sunday's clash off the back of their first win of the season, they should be motivated to mount a new charge in their battle to survive relegation. They currently sit in the 20th position with just five points - nine points away from safety.

For Tottenham Hotspur, only a win will make sense as far as their aspirations for the league season are concerned. Despite being tipped among the favorites to win the league, an inconsistent run of form has seen Jose Mourinho's side enjoying spells in and out of the top four. The turn of events in Wednesday's draw with Fulham paints a vivid picture of what has been the fate of the London outfit in recent weeks.

Having taken a 1-0 lead at the Craven Cottage, the White Lilies sat back to concede a late equalizer to share spoils with Scott Parkers' side. A similar script played out for Spurs when they met Wolves and Crystal Palace earlier this season. At the moment, Mourinho's men sit in sixth position with 30 points, and a win should be enough to lift them right back into the top four. They will approach Sunday's game off the back of a six-game unbeaten run, four of which ended in wins while the remaining two games were draws.

Team news

Aside Jack O'Connell and Sander Berge being ruled out with respective injuries, Sheffield United are expected to have a fully fit squad to take on Tottenham Hotspur. Oli McBurnie and Robinson are also a doubt for the clash. Just like the visitors, the Blades have no player suspended for the upcoming clash.

Spurs, on the other hand, are expected to be without Giovani Lo Celso. The squad is however boosted with the return of Gareth Bale.
