Manchester United will aim book a place in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League with a win when Paris Saint-Germain come to town on Wednesday.

Match preview

Manchester United will be chasing a fifth successive win in all competitions when they welcome Paris Saint-Germain to Old Trafford on Wednesday. The Red Devils currently top Group H in the UEFA Champions League and victory over Les Parisiens will grant them safe passage into the Round of 16 stage of the competition.

An impressive start saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men beat both RB Leipzig and the Ligue 1 outfit in succession before Istanbul Basaksehir stalled the run by condemning them to their first defeat on matchday 3. Last week, the 20-time English champions successfully avenged the loss, delivering a sterling performance to seal a 4-0 win over their Turkish club at Old Trafford. Manchester United backed this up with a stunning 3-2 comeback win over Southampton in the English Premier League and should be brimming in confidence heading to the clash with PSG.

While the season has been far from perfect, the Red Devils are gradually hitting their stride and their form in recent weeks is testament to this. They enter Tuesday's game off the back of seven wins, a draw and two defeats from their last 10 games. Interestingly, Paris Saint-Germain boasts a similar record, although they are a win short of the Red Devils haul.

The French capital outfit have not particularly had a great season in both the domestic and continental front. Although they sit atop Ligue 1, they have already lost three times in 12 outings this season. Their dream to qualify to the last 16 stage of the Champions League also hangs in the balance and anything but a win over Manchester United could complicate things further.

So far, Thomas Tuchel's men sit third in Group H after managing just six points from a possible 12. The Ligue 1 side conceded late against Manchester United on matchday one to miss out on securing a point before winning away to Istanbul Basaksehir in the subsequent fixture. They were unable to overcome the threat of RB Leipzig in the pair's first meeting during the third round of matches but successfully avenged the 2-1 defeat in Germany with a 1-0 win at Parc des Princes last week.

Against Manchester United on Wednesday, PSG will be pumped to get vindication as a defeat will make the Red Devils the first-ever club to beat them thrice in succession.

Team news

Manchester United will be without the injured Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw when they take on PSG on Tuesday. Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay are also ruled out of the clash while the availability of Anthony Martial and David de Gea remains uncertain.

The former missed the 3-2 win over Southampton through illness while the Spanish goalkeeper picked up a leg injury during the game. Axel Tuanzebe is suspended for the clash having starred in the reverse fixture in France earlier in the season.

PSG, on the other hand, have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of their trip to Old Trafford with Mauro Icardi and Pablo Sarabia joining their list of unavailable players The club is already without influential duo Julian Draxler and Juan Bernat with the pair yet to return from an injury spell.

Meanwhile there is a boost in camp with Idrissa Gueye passing a late fitness test.
