Preview: Nice vs Leverkusen

The month of November was not particularly kind to Nice, who come into this match having lost their last four games across all competitions and have now fallen into the bottom half of the table in Ligue 1. Having lost home and away to Eastern European side Slavia Praha and thus six valuable points, Patrick Viera's men now are light-years behind group leaders Leverkusen, who notably beat them 6-2 on matchday one.

To complicate matters, their upcoming German visitors have been in excellent form, and despite seeing their five game winning streak in the Bundesliga ended with a scoreless stalemate against Hertha Berlin (the first time they've failed to score in the league since September), Peter Bosz's side have lost just once in the Europa League this term and are unbeaten in their last nine Bundesliga fixtures.

That being said, the visitors are facing a huge injury crisis ahead of this tie, which just may give struggling Nice a bit of hope. Still, die Werkself will still pose a stern opponent as they will be looking to pick up another three points and leap-frog Slavia Praha into first spot in their quartet. Currently third in the Bundesliga and one of only two unbeaten sides in the league, the visitors cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over Israeli side Hapoel Be'er Sheva and are only behind Slavia due to their surprise 1-0 loss to them on matchday two.

The same Slavia Praha will be facing Hapoel Be'er Sheva, who despite being bottom of the table have three points in hand after beating Slavia already, so things could get pretty interesting if they can successfully pull off a double against their opponents this Thursday as that could put Hapoel in possible contention for qualification.

Nice, who also have three points, aren't entirely out of the running for a round of 32 spot just yet. They will need to beat Leverkusen by at least a four goal margin and ironically, will need Slavia Praha to beat Hapoel and die Werkself on the final two matchdays in order to progress.

Team news: Nice vs Leverkusen

Nice: Veteran defender Dante is out with a knee injury, while Dan Ndoye has tested positive for COVID-19 and Youcef Atal is not yet recovered from a thigh strain. Hicham Boudaoui is banned after being sent off during his team's disappointing loss to Slavia Praha last round.

Leverkusen: Bosz will be facing some huge selection worries for his starting XI, with Charles Aranguiz (muscular issues), Exequiel Palacios (back), Sven Bender (ankle), Edmond Tapsoba (COVID-19), Paulinho (knee), and Santiago Arias (fibula) all unavaliable for selection.
