The Englishman is headed to Inter Milan, meaning the Red Devils will be needing a new first-choice skipper.

Sky Sports have confirmed who will be the new first-choice captain at Man United during an interview with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Geoff Shreeves from the British news outlet sat down with the Red Devils boss on Friday morning, with the gaffer revealing who he will hand the captaincy to.

The current skipper is Ashley Young. However, the Englishman who inherited the armband from Antonio Valencia is set for an Old Trafford exit, with a move to Inter Milan being close to completion.

Who will succeed the former Aston Villa ace as Man United’s next first-choice captain? That man will be none other than Harry Maguire, the center-back who moved to Old Trafford over the summer.

The world’s most expensive defender is one of several players to captain the Red Devils in Young’s absence, alongside Rashford, De Gea, and even Lingard. However, he will now take over that role permanently.

"He (Young) is 35 in the summer and if he gets a two-year contract somewhere it's up to him to take that," Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

"We weren't ready to offer that. He's been a good servant for the club, he's been captain, he's won trophies. But we've got players coming through.

"Harry has been wearing the captain's armband and he will keep wearing it. He's come in and been a leader in the group. I've been impressed by his leadership skills.

"Everything about him tells me he's a leader. He's part of a group that we've had that have been leading this young group."

Despite joining the 20-time Premier League champions for a record fee, the former Leicester defender has endured a mixed season at the very best. The Englishman is yet to live up to his near $100M price tag but has proven his leadership skills.

Next up for Man United is a crucial trip to Liverpool. Ole’s men will look to pick up points against Klopp’s side once more, being the only team in England to achieve that so far this season.
