The Chilean Football Association revealed that coach Reinaldo Rueda has already excused all players from their international duties.

Chile and Peru were supposed to have a friendly clash next week in the Peruvian city of Lima, but Chilean footballers have asked their Football Association to cancel the game due to the ongoing political unrest in their country.

Earlier this week, midfielder and captain Charles Aránguiz had admitted that playing this game was not the best choice due to the complicated moments developing in the Chilean capital, which forced the government to exercise a curfew.

Today, the Chilean Football Association revealed their decision via a short press release on their website.

"The players that were called up to play for the Chilean National Team have decided not to play the friendly match against Peru scheduled for November 19 in the city of Lima. The decision was agreed by the team following a meeting held at Juan Pinto Durán training complex," the press release states.

"Coach Reinaldo Rueda has excused all players from their duties and has allowed them to return to their respective teams. The Chilean Football Association has already communicated this decision to their peers at the Peruvian Football Federation," the press release adds.

This was supposed to be Chile's 14th game in 2019, where they won only five (one of them after penalties). The Chilean team will have to figure things out since the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers will begin in the next international break, and FIFA will not allow any last minute changes.
