Los Colchoneros had to replace most of their backline this summer, and Simeone seems to have ended that ordeal with this signing.

Diego Simeone faced the mammoth task to replace almost the entirety of his defense, following the exits of Juanfran, Filipe Luis, Lucas Hernández and most notably, Diego Godín. Today, Simeone has finally put an end to that worry, as reports coming in from both England and Spain reveal that Los Colchoneros have reached an agreement to hire former Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur right back Kieran Trippier.

Reports by As and the Daily Mail state that Atlético and Tottenham will tell the world about this deal on Wednesday, when Trippier completes the routine medical examination at Atlético's training facility.

Details leaked by As and the English newspaper reveal that Los Colchoneros have agreed to pay Tottenham around $33M. When the deal is finalized, Atlético will have beaten Juventus and PSG to the signing of this talented English international.

The 28-year-old right back will join his fifth professional team, following his stints at Manchester City (2009-2010), Barnsley (2010-2011), Burnley (2012-2015), and Tottenham (2015-2019). Trippier has played 346 club games, scoring eleven goals.

Trippier has also played 16 games for the English National Team, scoring a goal against Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup semis.
