The legendary footballer still wants his compatriot to keep playing for the nerazzurri, but Icardi needs to get realistic with his demands.

Mauro Icardi's attempts to force Inter execs to offer him a better deal seem to be failing, since one of the most praised players in the club's history and current Vicepresident slammed his attitude in the past few weeks, where he has allegedly refused to work out with the team due to an injury.

Speaking after the UEFA Europa League draw, former team captain and VP Javier Zanetti tackled this issue, where he finds Icardi and his wife/agent Wanda Nara of the media circus that surrounds the team.

The most-capped player in Inter's history left it up to Icardi to decide if he wants to be a part of the team or not, and if he chooses to do so, he will need to handle things internally to heal a possibly damaged relationship between his team-mates and himself.

"When there's problems within the locker room, you have to deal with it from the inside. It gives you a chance to create a stronger squad. I'm sorry for everything that has been going on lately. Icardi is part of that group of players and he has to come clean with his team-mates, always thinking about what's best for the team. The team is more important than any of the players," Zanetti said.

The problems between Inter and Icardi began last week, as the player's girlfriend failed to reach an agreement with the club regarding the striker's contract. Inter went on to strip Icardi from the captaincy, but Icardi chose to make himself unavailable due to an injury, which was discarded after the player was submitted to a medical examination.

Even after all the problems between the team -which has won three games without the Argentine- and the striker, Zanetti still believes that his compatriot can contribute to the team.

"I haven't talked to him, you have to let things cool down a bit. I'd have no problem talking to him, but always thinking about what's best for the team. Icardi is still a key player for us and we expect to have him back for the UEFA Europa League's Round of 16, because he can really help the team," Zanetti added.
