Messi rules himself out of Valencia clash with UCL debut next week still in doubt

What started as a rumor might turn into Barcelona's worst nightmare, as Lionel Messi will most likely miss the team's next match against Valencia.

The Blaugrana side issued a statement earlier today in which the team's medical staff revealed that Messi did not join the rest of the squad in today's training session. With two days left before the clash against Valencia, the chances of watching Messi face Los Naranjeros are highly unlikely.

In fact, according to Sport, the footballer himself decided not to join his team-mates in Wednesday's training session, since he was not picking up the right sensations when he started working out on his own.

Messi is yet to make his debut in the 2019-20 season. The Argentine ace has seen all three games played by Barcelona on the sidelines, and his involvement in next week's UEFA Champions League match is still in doubt.

Counting today, Messi has been sidelined from the team for the past 37 days, which is his longest absence since 2015, when he picked up a knee injury against Las Palmas. With the team's slow start of the season, Messi's absence against one of their toughest rivals can't be good news.
