The 39-year-old heir to Kroenke Sports & Entertainment said that the Gunners will be proactive come winter.

Arsenal fans might have a reason to be excited come the January transfer window, as they have been given signals that the club could be looking at further signings in winter.

This hint was dropped by Josh Kroenke, the son of Gunners' owner Stan Kroenke. The 39-year-old heir to Kroenke Sports & Entertainment sat down for an interview with BBC Sport and touched on an array of topics, including the roller-costar summer transfer window to the club's ambition.

Stan has been heavily criticized by Gooners for showing little interest in the club he owns but Josh has filled the void left by his father's absence. A few months ago, several famous Arsenal fans and groups united to launch a "We Care Do You" campaign in which they demanded the owners show more ambition and it was Josh who addressed the disgruntled supporters.

He called for calm and promised exciting business was on the way, and the north London giants delivered. The additions of Tierney, Luiz, and Saliba should bolster their defense – albeit the latter of the three will join next summer – but the marque signing was that of Nicolas Pepe.

In a matter of weeks, Arsenal's window went from shatters to unforgettable and while Kroenke stressed that they must assess their situation come January, he insists they will be proactive during the winter.

"I would say that if you're reacting and doing club-record signings based on public opinion, you're not going to go very far as a club," Josh said when asked if the protest from the fans was the catalyst for their spending spree.

"We weren't reactive this summer, we were actually proactive.

"It was unfortunate that the summer unfolded publicly the way it did with some of the supporters' groups. I tried to answer some of their concerns to the best of our ability.

"The transfer market is an evolving, living, breathing thing. We identified key targets, worked on those deals and over time we were able to execute them.

"That's hopefully a sign of encouragement for Arsenal fans that, when we're out in the market place, you might never know what we're thinking and you could be surprised by some of the names that come up."

"As for January, I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. We've got to evaluate some things in the short term and figure out where we might need to address going forward, so when January does roll around we're going to be proactive again."

The 39-year-old, who was present during Arsenal's unforgettable 4-1 Europa League final defeat to Chelsea in Baku, admitted that missing out on Champions League football was a huge blow to their plans. Things had to be reassessed but he claims that their intention was to be aggressive in the transfer window regardless.

When asked if the Kroenka family helped from their own pocket with their summer signings, Josh refused to comment. He said: "It's going to be a private matter for us here at the club, but I hope our fans understand that by being aggressive that's exactly what we were.

"Going into the summer we knew we were going to have instruments in place that were going to allow us to be aggressive and they weren't going to be dependent on sales. The guys went out, worked their magic and I'm happy to have them on our side."

And when it came to their goals, the American had only one thing to say: silverware. He stated that the Gunners have two huge objectives and that is to win the Premier League, although that will be nearly impossible due to Man City and Liverpool, and to return to the Champions League.

Josh was present in Arsenal's first home game of the season, a 2-1 win over Burnley. Next up for Emery's side is a tricky trip to Anfield.
