Bayern's rebuilding process after a tough season (which despite all setbacks, concluded with the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal titles) seems to be in full-speed.
Coach Niko Kovac is ready to push the overhaul to the limit, and one of the most influential players since his arrival may be ready to leave. That player is none other than Mats Hummels, who is set to lose his spot in the lineup for two reasons: his lack of playing time under Kovac, and Lucas Hernández's arrival to the team.
Hummels' deal with Die Roten ends in the 2020-21 season, but that does not seem to matter, since the Bavarian side is already negotiating the player's transfer with Borussia Dortmund, the team where he arrived from before the 2016-17 campaign.
Bayern seems ready to cash in on Hummels, and according to a report by Sport Bild, the contacts that started this week are in an advanced stage, due to both teams' interest in seeing this deal come to fruition.
The Bundesliga champions would seem to settle for a $27M transfer fee for the German defender, who won three Bundesliga titles, three German Super Cups and one DFB-Pokal title.
This will not be the only transfer for Bayern involving a center back, as Jerome Boateng has also been asked by the team to search for other employment opportunities.
