Telemundo Deportes En Vivo is an American Spanish-language OTT platform owned by NBCUniversal. As its name suggests, it is a TV Everywhere service dedicated to sports, particularly events for which TV and digital broadcast rights have been acquired by NBC Sports Group and inherited by its related Spanish-language TV networks, Telemundo and Universo.
Telemundo Deportes, as the platform can also be simply called, provides both live and video on demand (VOD) services covering various disciplines. In the past, it has participated in the broadcast of major sporting events—many of which have been exclusive—from the world of boxing, eSports, motorsports and more. However, much of its content over the years has revolved around soccer, for which the streaming service has held a remarkable amount of digital rights.
International soccer competitions that have been streamed to Telemundo Deportes En Vivo’s Hispanic audience include the CONMEBOL Copa America, FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and Finals, as well as numerous FIFA Youth tournaments. In addition to streaming the Mexican Liga MX, it has also offered subscribers comprehensive coverage of the English Premier League—a competition for which it has aired all 380 matches on some seasons.
Users wanting to access live matches, full replays, game highlights, interviews and other content available on Telemundo Deportes are required to authenticate themselves via participating TV providers or, in some instances, internet service providers. These include AT&T U-verse, Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast Xfinity, Cox, DirecTV, DISH, Optimum, Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios and more.
Streaming on Telemundo Deportes in HD requires at least a 3G internet connection, with 4G Wi-Fi connectivity being the recommended choice for optimal video quality. Though the platform’s live content is restricted to the United States and its territories due to broadcast regulations, some of its regular videos may occasionally be open for viewing outside of USA. For users who have the channels Telemundo or Universo included in their TV package, access to the service comes at no extra cost.
Telemundo Deportes can be streamed online on PC and Mac using the latest versions of major web browsers, as well as on Android and iOS mobile devices running at least Android 2.2 or higher, or iOS 5.0 or higher, respectively. In 2017, support for the application was extended to Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast. This marked the first time a US network (Telemundo) offered a standalone, fully-dedicated Spanish-language sports application on connected TV devices.
