The Ivory Coast and Spain are set to battle for a spot in the semi's on July 31st.

Preview: Spain vs Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast, who are one of two African representatives left in the 2020 Olympics, will be looking to book their spot in the semi-finals at the cost of Spain. Soualiho Haidara's young squad come into this match having finished second in Group D, just two points behind Brazil following one win and two draws. They kicked things off with a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia, before having to settle for a draw with Brazil in a rather ill-tempered match during which both teams had a player sent off.

Finally, the Ivory Coast held on for a vital one-all draw against Germany; notably this was the first game during which they didn't end up going down to ten men. As such, in their upcoming match with Spain, it's that much imperative they keep their cool in order to finish with all 11 men on the pitch and maximize their chances at taking down their opponents and booking a spot in the final four.

Meanwhile, Spain have been hardly awe-inspiring, but they've gotten the job done. With just two goals, they have the lowest-scoring attack of any team in the last eight, but they managed to top their quartet thanks to two draws and a win, slightly pipping Egypt to that spot. A crucial win over Australia was enough to be the deciding factor, while their draw with Argentina was enough to guarantee them top place with a total of five points.

Spain have not done well at Olympics Games in recent times, since winning gold in 1992 when they served as hosts. In fact, they've missed out on the 2004, 2008, and 2016 editions, while crashing out in the group stages in 2012, so this team will be hoping to banish some of those bad memories and bring in a new era for Spain in Olympic tournaments.

The winner of this tie will take on either hosts Japan or New Zealand.

Team news: Spain vs Ivory Coast

Spain: No major injuries or suspensions for Spain ahead of this game.

Ivory Coast: Veterans Franck Kessie and Eric Bailly, two of the team's over-age players, have been highly instrumental in the team's success so far, and they'll definitely feature in the starting XI. Meanwhile, Eboue Kouassi will be eligible to return to the fold after being banned during the team's last group stage game against Germany.
